Not really. When a man joins the militia, no one makes a big deal about it, certainly nothing like this. She had to be very, very exceptional and behave as much like “one of the guys” as possible for this to happen. The end result is that they like her a lot, but only because they usually pretend she’s not a woman at all. She’s cool and different; other girls are still just girls.
(Sexism in this world is a little bit different from our own, in ways that will probably come up later, but in this case I think it pretty much matches up.)
